Panels and Q&As

We’re lucky enough to have a number of local experts speaking at our event, at both panels and a Q&A session. If you’re curious to learn more about these worlds of interest or just a fan, we’d love to see you in the audience and engaging in the conversation!

"Let’s talk about Game Development!" - 1PM

Hosted by Paris of Secret Lab

Paris co-founded Tasmania's longest running game dev studio, Secret Lab (https://secretlab.games/ - best known for Night in the Woods), and Yarn Spinner (https://www.yarnspinner.dev/), the tool used for thousands of games from DREDGE, to A Short Hike, to UNBEATABLE, to Demonschool. Come down to the auditorium at 1pm and have a chat to him about what goes in to building video games!

"What is EGL (Elegant Gothic Lolita) Fashion?" - 2PM

What IS EGL Fashion? Why do people wear it? How do they source it- and are they completely broke?

Come along to a casual Q&A where you can ask all these questions and more!

"reuse, reduce, upcycle, cosplay!" - 3PM

Supported by Resource Work Cooperative (South Hobart Tip Shop)

Join award winning cosplayer and lover of making things from cardboard and old curtains, Emerald L King for a discussion on making amazing costumes from the things you have lying around.

We'll talk about how to plan your builds, using materials that you might not have considered before, and whether or not you really can make anything out of cardboard.

Have an idea for a costume but not sure how to make it? Feel free to bring your ideas along and lets see if we can help solve your problems.

Emerald L King is Lecturer in Humanities at the University of Tasmania where she teaches Japanese language and popular culture. In 2024 she represented Australia at the World Cosplay Summit in Japan with her cosplay partner, Amy, dressed as Keneda and Tetsuo from Akira with bike and laser canon made from old cardboard boxes, washing machine parts, and an office chair.
